Marcela Carvalho was
born in Brazil. In 1983, she received diplomas in Elementary Education from the
Colégio Santa Therezinha and in Music Education from the Brazilian Conservatory
of Music - Rio de Janeiro. She moved to New York City in 1986 to study piano at
the Manhattan School of Music and painting at the Art Student's League. She
composed original music and performed with The City Kids' Foundation in the New
York City Public School system, in a show called "The Psychology of
Ecology."
In 1990, she
participated in the recording of "Bonga Wonga" by Toshinobu Kubota.
In 1992, Marcela worked as an apprentice at Super Mud Pottery Studio. From 1993
to 1996, Marcela managed The Clay Hand Gallery and taught ceramics to adults
and children. Her work is featured in the gift shop of the Museum Del Barrio of
New York City. She has written and illustrated three books for children.
Throughout her almost
two decades career as an artist, composer and writer Marcela Carvalho has been
a shimmer of tasteful and creative mainstream works. A purveyor of spontaneity
and harmony, linked to the richness of her birth country Brazil and to her
classical upbringing. Effortless Carvalho's works bring out simplicity,
boldness, character, primitivism, sensuality, emotions and beauty. She lives
and works in NYC.
